Iconic songwriting/producing team Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff were featured in a special “On the Mic” event, held at Warner/Chappell Music in Nashville on May 5. During the gathering, the legendary duo shared stories of their partnership as the architects of the Philly Soul sound and the creators of more than 45 gold and platinum records. Among the guests in attendance was seminal BMI songwriter John Oates, who has done session work with the legendary duo. BMI’s Senior Vice President of Writer/Publisher Relations, Phil Graham, presented several BMI Million-Air Awards to Gamble and Huff for hit songs including “Me And Mrs. Jones” (3 million spins), “Use Ta Be My Girl” (3 million spins) and “You’ll Never Find Another Love Like Mine” (5 million spins). Kenny Gamble received an additional Million-Air Award for writing “Dilemma,” which reached 1 million plays.

In addition to these accomplishments, the BMI Icons and GRAMMY award-wining duo has received many other prestigious accolades, including induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. They are also the recipients of the esteemed Johnny Mercer Award, the highest honor bestowed by the SHOF, reserved for formerly inducted songwriters whose exceptional body of work upholds the gold standard set by the legendary Johnny Mercer. Recently, Gamble and Huff were saluted by the National Museum of African American Music for their incredible impact on American musical culture.
