BMI Brings Songwriters to Maine to Help Retail Association’s Efforts to Boost Revenue
BMI joined forces recently (June 10-11) with the Retail Association of Maine to help celebrate their “Shop Second Saturday” campaign, bringing two award-winning Nashville songwriters to the Pine Tree state to perform at three different locations to help the initiative aimed at supporting Maine retail stores. Among the venues where BMI songwriters Dave Pahanish and Hugh Mitchell performed was Reny’s, a family-owned chain of Maine department stores with 16 locations that has been in operation since 1949. Pahanish and Mitchell performed for shoppers at the Portland location, telling the stories behind their songs and playing the hits they wrote for the likes of Keith Urban, Toby Keith, Charlie Mars and Tim McGraw.
Retail is the # 1 employer in Maine, employing more than 90,000 people in the state. “Shop Second Saturday,” a year-long program created by the Retail Association of Maine, is designed to promote the state’s retail businesses, and with the support of participating retailers, provide direct economic benefit to local communities. BMI and the Retail Association of Maine are partners in an association discount program that provides a 10% discount on BMI licensing fees to Maine retail establishments that are members of RAM.
