BMI proudly sponsored a composer mentorship program for University High School Charter’s Instrumental Music department. The public school, commonly referred to as “Uni,” is located in Los Angeles and is part of Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). The mentors of the program included BMI composers Cindy O’Connor, Rebecca Kneubuhl and Tony Morales. Three high school students, Sera Hornstein, Francesca Borchardt, and Charu Balamurugan, were selected to participate in the program where they received one-on-one mentorship including monthly lessons and an opportunity to record their arrangement with a professional ensemble. BMI’s Natalie Baartz and Reema Iqbal attended the recording session on Monday, November 25.
