BMI Remembers Jazz Legend Chuck Mangione

Posted in News on July 24, 2025

BMI was saddened to learn of the passing of acclaimed jazz trumpeter Chuck Mangione, who died earlier this week at the age of 84. An accomplished composer, musician, and bandleader, Mangione originally established himself playing in jazz luminary Art Blakey’s band in the 1960s but is best known for his top five hit from 1978, an infectious jazz instrumental called “Feels So Good.” The album that spawned that massive single, also called Feels So Good, reached the No. 2 position on the all-genre Billboard 200 albums chart and was later certified double platinum by the RIAA for sales of more than two million units.

Beyond that memorable hit, Mangione recorded 30 albums. He received 14 GRAMMY nominations, won a Best Instrumental Composition GRAMMY in 1977 for his song “Belavia,” and a Best Pop Instrumental Performance GRAMMY in 1979 for “Children of Sanchez.” He was inducted into his native Rochester, NY’s Music Hall of Fame in 2012.

Chuck Mangione will be missed by his friends, fans and family at BMI.
