BMI Remembers Dash Crofts of Seals & Crofts
BMI was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of singer/songwriter Dash Crofts, who died Wednesday at the age of 85. Alongside fellow singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jim Seals, Crofts established himself as an accomplished hitmaker as one half of radio fixtures, Seals and Crofts. The list of singles written and recorded by the duo reveals a host of beloved airwave staples like “Summer Breeze,” “Diamond Girl,” “Closer to You,” “Hummingbird,” “We May Never Pass This Way Again” and several other era-defining classics.
Crofts steadily collaborated with Seals, sending several songs up the charts, until they parted ways in 1983. They briefly reunited in the ‘90s and again in the early 2000’s, resulting in their final studio album in 2004, Traces. Four of their albums went Gold and two of them Platinum. “Summer Breeze,” arguably their signature single, went double-Platinum in 1972. Together, the duo won 5 BMI Awards and were twice nominated for GRAMMY Awards. Crofts released his lone solo album, Today, in 1998.
Dash Crofts will be missed by his friends, fans and family at BMI.
