BMI is saddened by the news that songwriter Tony Joe White passed away this afternoon. Responsible for classics like “Rainy Night in Georgia,” “Willie and Laura Mae Jones,” and “Polk Salad Annie,” White’s music has been recorded by more than 100 artists including Elvis Presley, Dusty Springfield, Brook Benton, Ray Charles, Tina Turner, and many more, while his recently released album, Bad Mouthin, was also enthusiastically received. As a performer, he graced BMI by appearing in the Company’s Rooftop on the Row series just a month before he passed. For this last performance, BMI will be forever grateful. Our condolences to his family and friends, White will be missed by his many fans at BMI.
