Posted in News on August 29, 2019

BMI is saddened by the news of the passing of legendary BMI classical composer Mario Davidovsky. Known for his pioneering use of live acoustic instruments and electronics, Davidovsky sought to maintain an organic human element in his work, which he achieved throughout his prolific career. Notably, he won the Pulitizer Prize for his piece, “Synchronisms No. 6,” which exemplifies his success at blending traditional sounds with technology, while never compromising the art of performance. Davidovsky also spent time sharing his extensive gifts as a revered teacher of generations of composers, as well as one of BMI’s judges for the BMI Student Composer Awards.

A renowned innovator and humanist who will forever have a place in musical history for his unique contributions, Mario Davidovsky will be dearly missed by his friends and fans at BMI.
