BMI Indie Spotlight: Robber Robber
Like an avalanche, Burlington quartet Robber Robber cascade upon the senses. On their thrillingly explosive sophomore album, Two Wheels Move The Soul, Robber Robber ringleader Nina Cates collects a series of pressurized vignettes inspired by being involuntarily thrust into the throes of rootless nomadism. Written and recorded throughout the winter of 2024 and 2025, a season of near-constant upheaval that saw ringleader Nina Cates and co-founder Zack James displaced from their longtime home, the album redirects personal and economic chaos into a high-impact sophomore record. Returning to Little Jamaica Studios with trusted engineer Benny Yurco, Cates, James, guitarist Will Krulak and bassist Carney Hemler turned the studio into a sanctuary, foregrounding the band’s sonically adventurous terrain: post-punk scorchers, burnt-out slacker anthems and melodies that sweeten the bitter pills stomached along the way. Working through the discomfort of class, upheaval and catastrophe remains central to Two Wheels Move the Soul, where the sparks fall by the wayside, the pressure cracks again and all that’s left is the wreck—so they dance. Robber Robber will be supporting Modest Mouse in the fall, with performances at Pitchfork Paris and Pitchfork London.
