As a humble, hard-working rock ‘n’ roller from the steel town of Youngstown, Ohio, Bob DiPiero might not have been the most likely songwriter to become a fixture on the country music scene, but once Nashville took notice of his singular knack for resonant melodies and deceptively simple lyrics, notoriety came swiftly. When his song “American Made” became a No. 1 hit for the Oak Ridge Boys in 1983, DiPiero’s status as an in-demand songwriter had him writing countless top 20 hits for a dizzying roster of Nashville royalty that includes Tim McGraw, Reba McEntire, Vince Gill, Faith Hill, Montgomery Gentry, Brooks & Dunn, George Strait, Martine McBride, Travis Tritt, Delbert McClinton, Tanya Tucker, Patty Loveless and many more, throughout an illustrious career spanning over three decades.
The proverbial songwriter’s songwriter, DiPiero remains grounded about his gift, and his success story is an inspiration to writers of all genres. In recognition of his tremendous contributions, Bob DiPiero is being named a BMI Icon at the 65th Annual BMI Country Awards.
