BMI Congratulates Legendary Composer Mike Post on Television Academy Hall of Fame Induction
BMI was thrilled to see celebrated composer and longtime BMI affiliate Mike Post inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame on August 16. In recognition of Post’s remarkable body of work – including the themes to beloved television series like The Rockford Files, Hill Street Blues, L.A. Law, Magnum P.I., The A-Team, NYPD Blue, Law & Order, The Greatest American Hero, Doogie Howser, M.D. and many more – the GRAMMY-winning composer was inducted into this prestigious institution by renowned film and television journalist, Jon Burlingame, who warmly recounted Mike’s long list of achievements as one of the most innovative and prolific television composers of all time, having scored the music for over 7,000 hours of programming.
As only the second television composer to be selected for this honor, Post accepted this recognition with signature wit and humility. Citing “collaboration” as the key to all his success in both his life and career, Post specifically thanked his loving family, his late writing partner Pete Carpenter, with whom he worked alongside for 17 years, and producers Stephen Cannell, Steven Bochco, and Dick Wolf, with whom Post enjoyed unprecedented success, collaboration, and creative fulfilment. Post also thanked all the assistants, engineers and agents who helped him throughout his career. He also graciously acknowledged his friends here at BMI who have been privileged to look after his performing rights and royalties for decades.
In addition to this tremendous recognition, Mike Post has earned multiple Emmy and GRAMMY Awards, received 42 BMI Awards, and was honored by BMI and the National Association of Broadcasters in 2018.
