It was an incredible showing for BMI affiliates at the 66th Annual GRAMMY Awards at the Crypto.con Arena in Los Angeles last night. The ceremony was full of showstopping moments, with BMI’s music creators repeatedly taking the stage to receive recognition for their incomparable work. In the general field category, Taylor Swift won both Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album for Midnights. This marks the fourth time Swift has received the Album of the Year award, a record-breaking achievement that makes her the performer with the most wins in that prestigious category. Her producer, Jack Antonoff, received the Producer of the Year, Non-Classical award.

Other multiple winners include SZA, who received Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Ghost in the Machine,” Best R&B Song for “Snooze,” and Best Progressive R&B Album for SOS. Rock trio boygenius won three awards, namely Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song for “Not Strong Enough,” as well as Best Alternative Music Album for The Record. Miley Cyrus received Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for “Flowers,” rapper Future took Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for “SCIENTISTS & ENGINEERS,” Jason Isbell took home two awards for Best American Roots Song for “Cast Iron Skillet” and Best Americana Album for Weathervanes, and Béla Fleck & Edgar Meyer received both Best Contemporary Instrumental Album for As We Speak and Best Global Music Performance for “Pashto.” Another notable win was celebrated film composer and BMI Icon John Williams, who received the Best Instrumental Composition Award for “Helena’s Theme” from Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, his 26th GRAMMY to date. The Recording Academy also presented Special Merit Awards to Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award honorees and BMI affiliates Laurie Anderson, the Clark Sisters and Tammy Wynette.

Beyond the awards, it was a spectacular night of live performances including a stunning version of “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus, a medley of “Snooze” and “Kill Bill” by SZA, and a stirring rendition of “Fast Car” performed as a duet by Luke Combs and Tracy Chapman.*
