The 85th birthday of venerated composer, conductor, pianist, and jazz musician Lalo Schifrin will be celebrated with a not-to-be-missed concert at the historic Alex Theatre in Glendale, CA, on Saturday, October 7, and BMI affiliates are invited to purchase tickets at a special discounted rate. Schifrin has written classic television themes and more than 100 film scores, including Mission: Impossible, Mannix, Bullitt, Cool Hand Luke, The Cincinnati Kid and The Competition, among others. The evening, which will begin at 8pm, will be presented by Musicians at Play, Music Fund Los Angeles, and Varèse Sarabande, with guest conductor Chris Walden leading an all-star big band in honoring Schifrin’s life, artistry, and esteemed body of work. Flutist Sara Andon will solo with the band for a pair of historic Schifrin pieces and Robert Townson will host the event. Additional special guests are to be announced.

Net proceeds from the event and silent auction will go to support music education in schools and aid for professional musicians in crisis. For more information and to buy tickets, click here, using code AFM47.
