7 BMI Writers Nominated for Induction Into Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame

Posted in News on February 5, 2016

BMI is very proud to announce that seven of its celebrated Latin music affiliates have been nominated for induction into the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2016. In the Performing Songwriter category, noms were earned by GRAMMY winners Brazilian music legend Caetano Veloso, Colombian rocker Juanes and versatile Colombian pop songstress Shakira. Non-Performing Songwriter nominees include GRAMMY-winner Kike Santander (who has written for Gloria Estefan, Jennifer Lopez, John Secada and many others), Miguel Luna (who has written for artists including Thalia, Pesado and more), Luis Fernando Ochoa (who has penned songs for Shakira, Ricky Martin, among others) and K.C. Porter (whose writing credits include Selena, Ricky Martin, Santana, among others).

The Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame, founded in 2012 by legendary writers Desmond Child and Rudy Perez, strives to “educate, preserve, honor and celebrate the legacy of the greatest Latin songwriters from all over the world,” and this year’s class of BMI nominees all represent that sterling standard. Voting runs through midnight March 15, 2016, and can be accessed here. The inductees will be announced during the 2016 Billboard Latin Music Conference in April, and be formally inducted at the 4th Annual La Musa Awards later this year.

Good luck to all!
