BMI LA's Linda Livingston was in New York recently for the gala premier of the new Oprah Winfrey-produced musical, The Color Purple. Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker and the Oscar-nominated film by Steven Spielberg, the show's music and lyrics are provided by Grammy Award-winning BMI composers Brenda Russell and Allee Willis (along with Stephen Bray), who bring a mix of jazz, ragtime, gospel and blues to the stage.

The Color Purple is an inspiring family saga that tells the unforgettable story of a woman who, through love, finds the strength to triumph over adversity and discovers her unique voice in the world. It's a story of hope, a testament to the healing power of love and a celebration of life.
