Songwriters Gather at Kauai Music Fest

BMI songwriters and industry executives gathered at the 2004 Kauai Music Festival, held recently at the Hyatt Regency on the beautiful island of Kauai, Hawaii. The four-day celebration of the art of songwriting was once again sponsored by BMI and featured some of BMI's top songwriters who served as the teaching and performing staff, including Brad Arnold of 3 Doors Down, Kris Kristofferson, Hugh Prestwood, Frank Myers, Shelly Peiken, Kara DioGuardi, Jake Shimabukuro, Jeff Cohen, John Cruz, Lucy Woodward and others.

Now in its second year, the Kauai Music Festival provides a unique opportunity for aspiring songwriters to learn and improve their craft under the tutelage of some of the best songwriters in the world. This multi-faceted event features seminar-style instruction for small groups in a variety of settings to promote the creative spirit, as well as lectures and panel discussions by music publishers, music attorneys, producers, and other industry professionals.

Singer/songwriter/guitarist Abbie Cardwell was the winner of this year's KMF Songwriter Competition and is guaranteed a spot in a BMI showcase to be announced.

Other participating sponsors of the 2004 Kauai Music Festival included American Airlines, Gibson Guitars, Baldwin, Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts, Kauai Visitor's Bureau, County of Kauai, Hyatt Regency Kauai Resort and Spa, Hawaiian Airlines, Performing Songwriter magazine, ColdStone Creamery and TAXI.
