BMI Atlanta Hosts Stellar ‘Trailblazers’ Salute

BMI honored the best in gospel music at its second annual “Trailblazers of Gospel Music” luncheon on January 12 at Justin’s in Atlanta. Hosted by BMI Writer/Publisher Relations representatives Catherine Brewton (Atlanta) and Thomas Cain and Joyce Rice (Nashville), this special event was held in conjunction with the 16th Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards, which were staged the following day at the Atlanta Civic Center.

This year’s honorees were BMI songwriter/artists Yolanda Adams, nominated for six Stellar Awards; Vickie Winans, who co-hosted the Stellar Awards ceremony; John P. Kee; Donnie McClurkin; and Dottie Peoples. Each honoree received a Trailblazer Award plaque in recognition of their outstanding achievements in gospel music.

At the Stellar Awards, Yolanda Adams was victorious in five categories: Artist of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year, CD of the Year (Mountain High...Valley Low), Contemporary Female Vocalist of the Year, and Music Video of the Year ("Open My Heart"). Fred Hammond was named Producer of the Year and Contemporary Male Vocalist of the Year. Traditional Female Vocalist honors went to Brenda Waters.
