John Powenski is the Senior Vice President & Chief Human Resources Officer at BMI. In this role, Powenski leads Human Resources across the organization, working closely with executive leadership to align talent, culture and performance in support of BMI’s continued growth and mission in service of songwriters, composers and publishers. Powenski is based in BMI’s Nashville office.
Prior to BMI, Powenski served as SVP, Human Resources at Asurion, Inc., where he led enterprise-wide people strategy and global HR operations. Over more than a decade, he held leadership roles across every major HR discipline, partnering closely with executive leadership to drive transformation and build scalable people capabilities across North America and International markets. Powenski built high-performing teams, modernized People Operations, and linked talent strategy directly to business performance during periods of significant growth and change. He also stepped outside the organization to help launch and build a technology-enabled benefits and retention startup from the ground up.
Earlier in his career, Powenski spent a decade at Capital One during its early growth and rapid scaling, partnering with senior leaders through major acquisitions, expansion and complex integration initiatives. He began his career in manufacturing HR at Frito-Lay PepsiCo, partnering closely with plant leadership and frontline teams in highly operational environments.
Powenski earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial & Labor Relations from Cornell University.
