Big K.R.I.T., Ro James and CharlieRED Shine at BMI’s ‘Know Them Now’ Showcase
An array of hip-hop and R&B talent on the verge of mainstream success commanded the stage at BMI’s “Know Them Now” showcase, held March 21 at The Canal Room in New York. Sponsored by Monster® Products, attendees were treated to the sounds of DJ Esso and performances by Def Jam recording artist Big K.R.I.T, mellifluous crooner Ro James and genre-bending troubadours CharlieRED. The invite-only event packed in more than 300 guests who convened for a night of must-see, buzz-worthy performances.
Hitting the stage first was Ro James – a smoldering tenor reminiscent of Donnie Hathaway - who set the energetic pace with a rousing performance of songs from his debut EP Coke, Jack and Cadillacs. Vocalists Rocki Evans and musician Cobaine Ivory, better known as CharlieRED, followed with a commanding set of electro-pop tunes from their eclectic release Religion. Rapper Big K.R.I.T. nailed the capstone on the evening. Known for resurrecting the rich heritage of Southern hip-hop of the 1990’s, Big K.R.I.T performed several songs from his Cinematic/Def Jam Records debut album, Live From The Underground.
