BMI Sponsors Movie Songs Panel at Film Fest

Posted in News on September 7, 2004
BMI was a sponsor of a film music panel at the second annual Don't Knock The Rock Film & Music Festival held recently in Los Angeles. BMI's Doreen Ringer Ross, Vice President of Film/TV Music, spoke on the panel entitled "How to Get Your Songs Into Movies!", moderated by actor/musician Michael Des Barres (Power Station, "Mayor of the Sunset Strip," "Mullholland Drive," "Man from Elysian Fields"). Other panelists included music supervisor Howard Paar ("Sueo," "D.E.B.S.," "Monster," "Party Monster," "Alias," "Dogtown and Z-Boys"), Bug Music's Sasha Ross, filmmaker Allison Anders ("Gas Food Lodging," "Border Radio," "Mi vida loca," "Grace Of My Heart," "Things Behind The Sun"), filmmaker Kurt Voss ("Down and Out with the Dolls," "The Heist," "Sugar Town," "Amnesia," "Where the Day Takes You") and Natural Energy Lab's Danny Benair.

The Don't Knock the Rock Film & Music Festival is a historical journey of classic and new rock and roll films that contain quintessential music performances and vintage footage of important artists in their prime. Beyond film programming, the festival showcases new musicians through a teenage rock and roll-off at Amoeba Records and performances at Hollywood's Knitting Factory. Lectures, a record swap and receptions are held in cafes, restaurants and clubs around Hollywood.
