The BMI Stage at Lollapalooza returned for its 19th summer, continuing a rich legacy of showcasing the most exciting new music and fresh, rising talent. This year’s diverse line-up offered up yet another wide array of sounds and styles, from the rollicking rock of ALEXSUCKS, Junior Varsity and People R Ugly to the contemporary country of Colby Acuff and Graham Barham, and the retro-electronic pop/funk of Midnight Generation to the soulful baritone ballads of Lekan, and all points in between. Known for high-energy performances and star-making sets, the BMI Stage delivered yet another adventurous voyage to the cutting edge of new music.
This year BMI collaborated with Chicago-based Crappy Cake Art, a creative project by artist Anna Lasbury who crafts hyper-realistic fake cakes adorned with bold, often humorous messages, to produce "cake art" designed with lyrics from this year's BMI Stage performers, which were proudly displayed backstage. Additionally, in partnership with Lollapalooza, four special cakes were created with lyrics by the weekend's BMI affiliated headliners that were hidden throughout the festival, each offering lucky attendees two backstage passes to the BMI Lounge when found.
