Not off to the best start as AA Eagle flight is delayed over an hour. They replaced the plane as the pilot told us the front wheel wasn’t responding to commands. Good thing as I like to know the wheels on the plane will go where the pilot directs them. On the way I get to sit next to a very nice woman who is in foreign sales/ finance for indie features. She still loves her job and is excited to have her son working for her. As much as she enjoys seeing all her friends at Sundance, she is already thinking of the Berlin Festival which is just a few weeks off. I try and read up on the screenings we are attending to get an idea of what’s ahead for us this year. Although I’ve been coming to Sundance for many years, it is always a thrill and one of the best trips of the year. What could be better than good movies, fine dining (when you can fit it in between screenings), great music and skiing (not necessarily in that order)! Getting the all-wheeler rental loaded up and moving takes no time at all. You never know whether there will be a major snow storm (great for skiing, but not the best for getting to the theaters. Today was a beautiful warm night by Utah standards just before the exit off I80 to Park City we see the most beautiful full moon behind a light haze rising over the western mountains. We seem to glide down the road which is still framed by the Christmas lights from all the many new homes built over the last few years. We quickly grab our credentials at Sundance headquarters and check-in to our condo within walking distance of the Deer Valley slopes. One of the great things about coming back after so many years is knowing you can find a nice restaurant for dinner that doesn’t require reservations weeks in advance for Sundance. We thoroughly enjoyed dinner at a favorite spot away from the Main Street nonsense of the Festival. I’d give you the name, but we’d never be able to get in next year.

Our flight was just late enough and dinner good enough that we had to miss our first screening, but no harm as we have 3-4 planned for the next few days. A short ride up Main Street before it gets too crazy to take some pictures, then home to the condo for some shut eye so we can enjoy CAMP X RAY, LAST DAYS IN VIETNAM and FRANK tomorrow. So glad to be back at Sundance.
