BMI and Lucas Richman Host 18th Annual Conducting Workshop

Continuing their partnership, BMI, along with composer/conductor Lucas Richman, held their 18th annual conducting workshop series with the finale held on the Eastwood Scoring Stage at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, CA, on August 15. The series provided eight rising composers the chance to hone their conducting skills and multi-meter technique during two weeks of private, multi-session workshops. This year’s class of participant composers included Joseph DeBeasi (American Sniper); John Kaefer (Sequestered); Michael Kramer (Ninjago); Heather McIntosh (Manson Family Vacation); Josh Moshier (Running Buddies); Joel Richard (Quantico, John Wick); Bryan Senti (Experimenter, How To Dance In Ohio) and Andrew Morgan Smith (Status Unknown). At the finale, the selected composers conducted various pieces including Beethoven’s 1st Symphony and film cues by Jerry Goldsmith and John Williams.

The series was put together by BMI’s Assistant Vice President, Film/TV, Ray Yee and Associate Director, Film/TV, Philip Shrut. In addition to holding the post of music director of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra and the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, GRAMMY-winner Lucas Richman has appeared as guest conductor with orchestras worldwide including the New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Baltimore Symphony, Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the Oslo Philharmonic, among numerous others, Watch for the September 1 release of his new project entitled IN TRUTH: Lucas Richman. The recording features the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra performing in their home venue, Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh, under the baton of Richman in a performance from February 2015. IN TRUTH includes Concerto for Piano and Orchestra: In Truth with Jeffrey Biegel; Three Pieces for Cello and Orchestra with Inbal Segev; and Concerto for Oboe and Orchestra: The Clearing with Cynthia Koledo DeAlmeida, principal oboe of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
