Good Dick and U2
By Doreen Ringer Ross
I’m starting to develop my festival rhythm; get about four hours of sleep, get up early and drink coffee, write, email, organize everything in the mornings and then hit the ground running by 11:00am. On Saturday we went to see Good Dick…which I just loved. It’s original, brave, and funny and I know it got some bad reviews but to me it was like an inverted Sex, Lies, and Videotape in terms of the psycho-sexual dynamic of the lead characters. If anybody sees it, it could do for Jason Ritter what Sex, Lies, and Videotape did for James Spader in terms of defining him as a different sort of heroic sex symbol. All the women I talked to after the screening walked out of the theater all turned on and slightly frustrated. I’ll leave it at that.
After enjoying Good Dick (and yes, it’s so much fun to say that) we had lunch at The Butcher with French composer Jean-Michel Bernard who scored Michel Gondry’s Be Kind Rewind. Then composer agent Randy Gerston joined us along with composer Claude Foisy.

I have utter reverence for the band and their live show to begin with…but seeing it with its poignant human rights message and production value via this new digital 3D and surround-sound technology is even more intimate and intense than sitting in the front row of their concerts…without the huge ticket price or concert going hassle. 3D glasses and all, we had an exhilarating time at the premiere tonight. Bono and the band were in the house, as was Robert Redford and superstar recovering politician Al Gore. Sometimes I am acutely aware of just how amazing my life is. This was one of those nights.

All the U2 boys were in the house… and if you squint you can see Al Gore sitting behind them…
