BMI has been a proud sponsor and supporter of the Sundance
Film Festival for more than 15 years. During that time BMI
has hosted parties, dinners, press seminars, roundtables
and panels promoting it’s composers and music in film.
From
bringing composers like Danny
Elfman, Thomas
Newman, Graeme Revell, George S. Clinton, Cliff Martinez,
and Stewart Copeland to Sundance, to hosting directors
Gus Van Sant and John Waters at the festival, BMI has continued
to promote the director/composer relationship and the art
of the score. In addition to composers, BMI has had a long
history of presenting live music at Sundance, with such
bands as DEVO to The Neville Brothers, Los Lobos, Beck,
Cracker, Joan Osborne, Adam Duritz (Counting Crows) and
Cheap Trick, playing at BMI sponsored events.
Through it’s ongoing support of the Sundance
Composers Lab held at the Sundance Institute during the summer, BMI
continues to look for new and innovative ways to help enhance the composer
and director relationship. This year BMI is expanding it’s focus to include a workshop
on the new avenues for music on cable television, a showcase of four diverse
and talented songwriters as well as supporting it’s many composers
who have scored films at the festival.
