Around the Rountable
by Doreen Ringer Ross
Wednesday, January 25th

This morning we did our Composer/Director Roundtable at the Sundance House.  The room was packed and there were 14 of us participating on the roundtable.  It always takes my breath away when I find myself sitting amongst so many insanely talented people.

Director Patrick Creadon ("Wordplay"); Composer Terence Blanchard ("Mo Better Blue," "The 25th Hour"); Composer Peter Golub ("Wordplay," Director, Sundance Composers Lab); Composer David Julyan ("The Descent"); Composer David Kitay ("Art School Confidential," "The Darwin Awards"); Director Finn Taylor ("Darwin Awards"); Director/Composer Stewart Copeland ("Everyone Stares: The Police Inside Out"); BMI's Doreen Ringer Ross; Director Nick Cassavetes ("Alpha Dog"); Director/Cinematographer Haskell Wexler ("Who Needs Sleep?"); and Composer Aaron Zigman ("Alpha Dog"). Front row, l to r: Composer Craig Richey ("Friends With Money"); Composer Anthony Marinelli ("Dreamland") and Director Jason Matzner ("Dreamland")

This evening we did our Songwriter’s Snowball at the Sundance House.  The showcase featured Cary Brothers, Josh Rouse, and Van Hunt. I had fun at the Snowball.  I ran into my friend Corey Feldman who had been through all the swag houses in town.  He was sporting a glorious new watch from Fred Segal’s and he said he was given so much stuff he couldn’t believe it... his stash includes a new washer and dryer.  Jeez.

Corey and I were both interviewed by the  “Festival After Dark” Park City TV show which was fun because I got to tell some great old Sundance stories  about the history of music at the festival.  After the interview I told the show host that I actually watch only Park City TV when I’m here.  I purposefully like to live in that Sundance bubble....where for these ten days nothing else really exists.  He turned the camera back on and asked me to repeat that.  I’m realizing that I’m much more of a ham than I thought I was.  I’m starting to really enjoy doing these TV interviews

Shooting Ryan Shupe and the Rubberband
by Alison Smith
Wednesday, January 25th

I have been looking forward to seeing Capitol Nashville Recording artists and local favorites hailing from Salt Lake City Ryan Shupe and the Ruberband all week and they didn't disappoint. We saw them at the Turning Leaf Lounge with other festival attendees during a festival wine tasting.

At one point, the band caught the eye of some young fans outdoors. Too young to get in, they bounced around with the band, wishing they could come inside- sharing the fun. We look forward to seeing the upcoming Banjo Boy video, which was just completed by the band. They closed with their signature Walk the Walk going into Foggy Mountain Breakdown where all members of the band shared in the playing of the others instruments. Hard to describe, you just have to see them live to believe it.

I took the opportunity to unwind from an eventful day by dropping by a house party where a few publishers were staying.  It appeared I wasn’t the only one with this thought as the house was full of guests that I have seen throughout the day at our Roundtable and Snowball.  Randy Gerston was cleaning up at the pool table, but it didn’t hurt that the camera flashed just as Scott Holtzman was taking a shot…sorry Scott.
