The Final Premier by Doreen Ringer Ross
Friday, January 27th

It snowed this morning.....dusted everything with fluffy white powder. Most of the BMI staff went home today, but I'm staying on until the end. My daughter Chelsea and my friend Zabra flew in to meet me for the weekend. We had lunch at Zoom with Aaron Zigman and David Kitay and then went walking up Main Street for a while. I bought Chelsea a new jacket at Roots. (Thank you Wendy for giving us all the cool Roots stuff to give to our dinner guests the other night) Then we went off to the Alpha Dog premiere... Nick Cassavetes new film starring a brilliant cast that includes Justin Timberlake....who did a great job with a rather gritty role. I can't say that it was a good idea to take a 14 year old girl to see that film...but I didn't quite figure that out until we were well into it. The film was amazing....but it contained LOTS of drug use, bad language, sex, and violence. Alpha Dog is the Jesse James Hollywood storey so you know it ends really badly for all the kids...and that's where I went with it regarding Chelsea... I told her I hoped if she ever found herself involved with kids like the ones in the movie to get outta there immediately before it turned really dark. Aaron Zigman did an incredible job with the music. He composed the score but he also wrote a ton of songs that were so edgy I thought they were done by rap artists. This film is completely different than Nick Cassavetes and Aaron Zigman's last collaboration on The Notebook. The two films couldn't be more different.

Afterwards we blew off all the parties and went for Japanese food. Chelsea was falling asleep in her Tempura... so we came right home afterwards and she fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow. I stayed up and watched this show called "Festival After Dark" on Park City TV... which surprisingly included a whole segment about our Snowball and the history of music at this festival.

The Darwin Awards

Linda and I went to see The Darwin Awards at the library today. We missed the big premiere and the Metallica party last night because we were hosting our Snowball (and opted to retain our hearing). It was a very fun film! David Kitay came up with this idea to record the score backwards and pitched it to Finn Taylor....who actually bought the idea! It worked!

That night we hosted our annual seat switching dinner at Zoom...where we make our guests get up and switch seats in between each course. Part of coming to Sundance is about meeting new people and seeing old friends...so we make a point to facilitate that. We couldn't do this without the amazing support we get from Steve and his awesome staff at Zoom who tolerate this chaos and make it seem like they are even having fun. (Thanks Steve!!)
