BMI Introduces “She Is The Conversation”

BMI is excited to present She Is The Conversation, a video project created in partnership with She Is The Music, a nonprofit organization committed to building inclusivity, equality and opportunity for women in the music industry.

She Is the Conversation features six candid and inspiring discussions between talents such as Apple Music radio host and country singer/songwriter Rissi Palmer and Americana singer/songwriter and activist Allison Russell, celebrated songwriter/producer/publisher and educator Kara Dioguardi and country sensation Ingrid Andress, songwriting powerhouse Justin Tranter and music publishing executive Katie Vinten, multi-hyphenate artist/writer/producer/publisher Tayla Parx and emerging singer/songwriter Lara Andersson, and musician and lyricist Carmen Reece and international hitmaker Jin Jin.

Kara DioGuardi & Ingrid Andress

As a GRAMMY-nominated songwriter, producer, performer, music publisher, A&R executive, author, mentor and former judge on American Idol, Kara Dioguardi has experienced the business at every level. Here, she speaks with her mentee, hit singer/songwriter and Berklee College of Music graduate, Ingrid Andress. DioGuardi talks about her start as a songwriter and her early advice for Andress, a three-time GRAMMY nominee. Having moved to Nashville following her mentorship with DioGuardi, Andress dove into writing sessions with artists like Sam Hunt, Alicia Keys and Charli XCX. Now, on the back of her celebrated debut album, Lady Like, Andress’ star is on the rise. In this episode, DioGuardi and Andress discuss the songwriting process, their journeys in the industry and the joys of breaking boundaries.

Justin Tranter & Katie Vinten - Part 1

Prolific singer/songwriter Justin Tranter and music publishing executive Katie Vinten came together after Vinten spotted Tranter’s gift for songwriting, taking him from frontman of a rock band to one of the most sought-after songwriters of today. Hit after chart-topping hit followed, establishing Tranter as an in-demand collaborator, responsible for hits by Imagine Dragons, Ariana Grande, Julia Michaels, DNCE, Selena Gomez, Gwen Stefani, Nick Jonas, Kygo, Maroon 5 and many others. Top singer/songwriter Tayla Parx has written hits for Panic! At the Disco, Ariana Grande, Khalid & Normani and many more. She is also a recording artist, has her own publishing company, and has various projects going on across the board. Singer/songwriter Lara Andersson is a rising talent signed to Parx Publishing who has collaborated with writers like Steve Mac, Justin Tranter, Diplo and Fred Gibson, among others. As mentor to Anderson, Parx has developed her skills as a music creator, built up her confidence as a collaborator and prepped her for dealing with the hardest aspects of the business. In this episode, Parx and Anderson talk about how they’re making their marks in the industry.

Carmen Reece & Jin Jin

Chart-topping British songwriters Carmen Reece and Jin Jin are blazing a path in the industry. London-born, L.A.-based Reece started writing songs at age 11 and has since gone onto work with artists such as Ariana Grande, Kanye West, Craig David, Fifth Harmony, Ciara and many more. She signed her first publishing deal in 2014, formed a production partnership in 2019 and is also an accomplished performer. Jin Jin found her love of music hanging out at her grandfather’s reggae shop in Manchester, prompting her to pursue it as a career. Along with being a solo artist, Jin Jin has collaborated with a long list of producers and artists including Diplo, David Guetta, Jax Jones, Jess Glynne, Raye, Yebba, Rita Ora, Craig David, Gary Barlow, Hailee Steinfeld, Becky G and more, and was recently invited to serve on the prestigious board of the Ivor Novello Awards. In this conversation, Reece and Jin Jin share stories of their struggles, insights and experiences.
