Catherine Brewton Named Vice President, Writer/Publisher Relations At BMI

NEW YORK, May 4, 2005 – Catherine Brewton has been promoted to Vice President, Writer/Publisher Relations, BMI Atlanta, it was announced today by Del R. Bryant, President & CEO of the performing rights organization. She was previously Assistant Vice President in that department.

In making the announcement, Bryant said: “Since Catherine joined BMI in 1997, she has expanded and enhanced our efforts in urban music, making BMI the obvious choice for emerging and established songwriters and publishers. She has also developed the annual BMI Urban Awards and the Gospel Trailblazers Luncheon into two of the most coveted invitations of the year. Catherine has, in every way, proved herself a valuable asset to BMI and to those we represent.”

During her 8 years at BMI, Brewton has worked closely with such chart-topping songwriters and producers as The Neptunes (Pharrell Williams & Chad Hugo), Rodney and Fred Jerkins, Lil’ Jon, Dallas Austin, Kanye West, The Game, Jazze Pha and Fat Joe. In her new position, Brewton will continue to work with Writer/Publisher staff members in New York, Los Angeles, Nashville and London in signing new writers to the company. She and her staff will also create showcases, songwriter programs and seminars around the country to educate and expose new talent.

Brewton opened the Atlanta office in 1997 as Director, Writer/Publisher Relations, and was promoted to Senior Director in 1999. She was named Assistant Vice President in 2002. Prior to BMI, she worked for three years as Executive Director of the Recording Academy (NARAS). In addition to her music industry experience, Brewton’s varied professional background includes positions in promotion, marketing and finance. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration and Marketing from Shaw University in Raleigh, NC.
