BMI brought award-winning singer/songwriter Kevin Griffin, lead singer of the band Better Than Ezra, to perform at Dave and Buster’s National GM meeting, held recently in Las Vegas. In addition to belting out Better Than Ezra hits including “Good” and “Desperately Wanting," Griffin also performed “Collide,” the chart-topping pop song he wrote for Howie Day. BMI songwriter and RCA Nashville recording artist Jake Owen was the featured entertainment at the NAB’s recent State Leadership Conference in Washington, DC. The talented singer/songwriter played in front of radio and TV executives from around the country, cranking out hits from his first two albums, including “Startin’ With Me,” “Don’t Think I Can’t Love You,” “Yee Haw,” and “Eight Second Ride”. Owen was named the Top New Male Vocalist of the year at the 2009 Academy of Country Music (ACM) awards and has won numerous BMI awards for his songwriting. Continuing an annual tradition, BMI provided the entertainment for the Clear Channel Broadcast Accounting Holiday Party, held recently in San Antonio. Award-winning songwriters Rodney Clawson and Dylan Altman were tapped to perform, joining an impressive list of past participants including Jack Ingram, Jeffrey Steele, KingBilly, Wynn Varble, and more. Clawson’s growing catalog of hits includes chart-toppers “I Saw God Today,” by George Strait, Jason Aldean’s “Why,” and “Lost in this Moment,” recorded by Big & Rich. Altman’s body of work includes Tim McGraw’s #1 smash “Watch the Wind Blow By,” as well as “If the Fish Don’t Bite,” a new song destined for the charts. BMI invited award-winning singer/songwriter Chris Barron to perform at the Alaska Association of Broadcasters (ABA) Annual Awards Dinner, staged recently in Anchorage. As the lead singer of the rock group Spin Doctors, Barron has penned such hits as “Two Princes” and “Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong,” and is currently touring in support of his most recent album, Poncho and The Kid. In conjunction with his trip to Anchorage, Barron also performed at an event for radio group New Northwest.
