June 26, 2012 BMI recently presented a Million-Air certificate recognizing more than four million performances of “Some Kind of Wonderful” to the song’s writer, Willie John Ellison. The smash was originally recorded by the Soul Brothers Six in 1967, and was later covered by others including Grand Funk Railroad and Huey Lewis and the News. Ellison also received his BMI Million-Air Award for the song’s three-million performance milestone. Pictured at BMI’s New York office are BMI’s Wardell Malloy and Charlie Feldman; Ellison; and BMI’s Samantha Cox.
