Before performing a special holiday showcase at Sony Nashville, beloved American Idol season 8 contestant Danny Gokey took a break from rehearsing to officially join the BMI family. The Society of Composers and Lyricists (SCL) and BMI co-hosted a screening of new film The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus on Wednesday, December 9 at Sony Pictures Studio in Los Angeles. The screening was followed by a Q&A session with the film’s elite composing team, Mychael and Jeff Danna. Starring Heath Ledger, Christopher Plummer, Tom Waits, Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell, Jude Law, and more, the fantastical morality tale opens Christmas Day. BMI’s Byron Wright (right) recently caught up with Young Jeezy (left) to hand deliver the hip-hop star’s BMI Urban Awards, celebrating his first #1, “Love in This Club,” recorded by Usher and #1 single “Put On,” featuring Kanye West. Young Jeezy also received a Billboard Award recognizing the chart-topping success of “Put On.” On the road in September as part of the “America’s Most Wanted Tour,” Young Jeezy was unable to attend the BMI Urban Awards ceremony.
