Songwriter Equity Act Continues to Gain Momentum in Congress

Posted in News on September 22, 2016

Congressman Jared Huffman (D-CA-2) (@RepHuffman) has joined lead Democratic cosponsor Congressman Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY-8) (@RepJeffries) in supporting H.R.1283, the Songwriter Equity Act of 2015. The bill, introduced by Congressman Doug Collins (R-GA-9) (@RepDougCollins), continues to gain support on Capitol Hill, and Congressman Huffman’s cosponsorship is welcome news to BMI affiliates in California and across the country. Congressman Huffman serves on the House Natural Resources Committee, where he is the Ranking Member of the Water, Power, and Oceans Subcommittee. He is also a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.

If passed, the SEA will protect the rights and royalties of music creators, making it vitally important that members of Congress hear from their constituents in their home states so that they, too, will speak up on your behalf. If you have not already done so, please make your voice heard by contacting your Congressional Representative and Senators via BMI’s online SEA tool at www.bmi.com/advocacy. Tweet your thanks for Congressman Huffman’s support at @RepHuffman.
