Pop Meets Country Songwriters Retreat Hits the Mark in Nashville
Broadcast Music, Inc., in collaboration with Warner/Chappell Music, hosted the inaugural pop/country winter songwriter retreat, January 13-15, 2015, at the historic Inn at Fontanel in Nashville, TN. Trend setting pop writers from Los Angeles joined top-charting country writers from Nashville to create new collaborations and co-writes. Jessa Gelt, out of BMI’s LA office, notes that “Nashville and LA are two very different cultures and different communities, so I feel when you bring writers together, with a different background, a different skill set, and a different approach to how they write music, it creates a whole new sound.” By merging LA pop and Nashville country, these experienced writers were forced out of their comfort zone, ultimately leading to new ways of approaching the writing process.
