Indie Spotlight: Halsey
Ashley Frangipane, otherwise known as her music alter-ego Halsey, is anything but apologetic. Nicknamed after a subway stop on Brooklyn’s L-train, Halsey is the newest artist to hit the pop scene with her ethereal yet gritty and raw sound. Despite advice to release her first single “Ghost” by more conventional methods, she confidently dropped it independently to near universal acclaim, sending the tune shooting up charts on Sirius Radio and iTunes, and scoring her a record deal with Astralwerks. Her EP, Room 93, was influenced by her trips playing up and down the East Coast and hotel hopping in different cities. The work topped Twitter and Billboard viral charts and gained VEVO’s attention, who lauded her as an Artist to Watch in 2015. A sold-out headlining tour followed, giving Halsey’s fans the chance to experience her cutting-edge fashion sense and energetic stage shows firsthand.
