Indie Spotlight: Gringo Star

Posted in News on October 1, 2013

With two full-length albums already under their belt, Atlanta-based band Gringo Star made a risky move when putting together their upcoming release Floating Out to See (October 22). Instead of relying on the talents of their previous producers, brothers Nicholas and Peter Furgiuele (lead vocalists and songwriters) and band member Chris Kaufman recorded the album in the basement practice space of one of their homes, producing it and mixing it themselves. Outside the confines of a studio space, the band opted to create more experimental, drawn-out songs, improvising and going with the flow of their informal setup. Their first single, “Going Way Out,” features distant, fuzzy vocals and the keyboards and guitar riffs to match their enthusiastic appreciation of artists like Marc Bolan, The Stooges and Ritchie Valens. It’s a catchy song that exclaims via psychedelic pop just how far the trio is willing to go as a band. Check out the promos the band has been releasing on YouTube. of the tracks on the new album and their Facebook page for upcoming tour dates.
