Posted in News on January 28, 2013

BMI is honored to have signed Zach Sobiech during a visit he and his family made to BMI’s New York City office on Friday, January 25, 2013. The 17-year-old songwriter was diagnosed at 14 with Osteosarcoma. Battling his cancerous bone tumors, Zach turned to the power of music and his guitar to express his feelings. More recently, his music has been the way for him to say good-bye to his friends and family. As it turns out, the world is also listening.

His song entitled, “Clouds” has received nearly 2 million views on Youtube and the number keeps growing. Everyone who listens to the song fills with emotion – inspiration, joy, amazement, and of course, sadness. The level of purity in Zach’s song is something songwriters of every age aspire to be able to reach and Zach’s ability to take his pain and try to heal others is truly the work of a gifted writer.

After officially becoming a BMI songwriter, Zach graciously sang “Clouds” for the BMI team and discussed his experience as a songwriter. Zach’s courageous response to his life-threatening illness is to embrace every day with hope and help others no matter what. Undeniably, this amazing outlook, which finds its way into Zach’s music, is making a difference. Watch now as Zach talks about finding Inspiration through songwriting.

Zach’s family started the Zach Sobiech Osteosarcoma Fund so that kids diagnosed in the future will have a better chance for a cure. Please consider donating.
