BMI Delves into “Surviving As A Composer” at 2012 Billboard/The Hollywood Reporter Film & TV Music Conference

BMI hosted the “Surviving as a Composer” panel at the Billboard/The Hollywood Reporter Film & TV Music Conference on October 24-25 at the W Hotel in Hollywood, CA. Moderated by BMI’s Assistant Vice President, Film/TV Relations, Ray Yee, the panel featured Tyler Bates, BMI Composer; iZler, BMI Composer; Evyen Klean, Owner, Neophinic, Inc.; Christopher Lennertz, BMI Composer; and Robert Messenger, Partner, First Artists Management. Discussions presented a variety of avenues for film composers to venture into including video games, the pop world, and building new businesses. In addition, BMI composers and publishers served as speakers on several other panels throughout the two-day conference. Featured Q&A’s included a keynote with BMI Icon, GRAMMY and Academy Award winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla who discussed his career and latest film score, “On the Road,” and Q&A with BMI composer Danny Elfman. Additional panels in which BMI affiliates participated included “Greeting from Advertising Park: Commercials and Music,” “Songs and Scores: A Gathering of Musicians,” and “Career Study with Judd Apatow.”
