Education Through Music – LA’s recent fundraiser featured several acclaimed film, television, and visual media composers who reimagined new scores for classic silent films as part of the Silent Films Live series. Their scores were performed by the renowned Los Angeles-based Helix Collective after a pre-concert interview and reception featuring a discussion with the composers, moderated by Varèse Sarabande’s Robert Townson. Proceeds from the event, which took place November 3 at the Malibu Screening Room, supported ETM-LA’s ongoing music education programs at local disadvantaged Los Angeles schools.

The event kicked off with an overture composed by Juhi Bansal (“Where Shadow Chases Light”), followed by original compositions for the following silent films: Modern Times, with music by four-time Emmy winning BMI composer Jeff Beal (Blackfish, House of Cards); One Week, with music by Jeff Cardoni (Silicon Valley, The Grinder); The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, with music by BMI composer and two-time Emmy winner Laura Karpman (The Living Edens, Paris Can Wait); Phantom of the Opera, with music by BMI composer and Emmy Award nominee Kevin Kiner (Jane the Virgin, CSI: Miami); The Great Train Robbery, with music by GRAMMY and Emmy nominee Jeff Russo (Fargo, The Night Of) and Nosferatu, with music by BMI composer and GRAMMY and Emmy Award nominee George S. Clinton (Austin Powers International Man of Mystery, Santa Clause).
