BMI Congratulates Its Winning Songwriters at the 2020 BET Awards
BMI songwriters made a strong showing, Sunday night, at the 2020 BET Awards, with several of our affiliates claiming major awards for their tremendous contributions over the last year. While BET made the celebration virtual in light of the pandemic, this year’s event — celebrating not only twenty years of the awards, but also 40 years of the BET network itself — showcased a robust selection of remarkable talent, highlighted by several notable video performances by BMI writers like Anderson .Paak, Chloe x Halle, John Legend, Jonathan McReynolds, Kane Brown, Megan Thee Stallion, Nas, Roddy Ricch and an incendiary show-opener by veteran hip hop legends Public Enemy.
In terms of the major accolades of the evening, rapper Roddy Ricch claimed the awards for both Best New Artist and Album of the Year for Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial. Texan rapper Megan Thee Stallion received awards for Best Female Hip Hop Artist as well as the Viewers Choice Award for her single “Hot Girl Summer.” Chris Brown also took home two awards, those being Best Male R&B/Pop Artist and Best Collaboration for “No Guidance,” his 2019 single that featured Drake.
BMI is exceptionally proud of its songwriters who received such well-deserved recognition.
