Multiple BMI Award-winning singer/songwriter Gavin DeGraw has joined forces with older brother and fellow BMI troubadour Joey DeGraw to launch National Underground Records, a new indie label that will also serve as an extension of the pair’s popular lower Manhattan live music venue of the same name.
National Underground’s first release will be Joey DeGraw’s Say Something Strong. Slated to drop August 18, the album marks the follow-up to Joey’s well-received independent release, Midnight Audio. In addition to a burnishing reputation as a soulful composer and vocalist, Joey has collaborated with key contemporary trendsetters including Joss Stone and the Spin Doctors’ Chris Barron.

Through National Underground Records, the brothers hope to build an innovative and supportive business infrastructure for other inspired artists, many of whom frequently grace the National Underground stage. Billed as an Americana, roots and rock venue, National Underground has become a live music hub for top indie talent from all over the country.
“I have been fortunate to have been given the opportunity to make the kind of music that I love,” reflects Gavin. “With National Underground Records we will be able to give other talented artists the same opportunity.”
“My brother and I want to show off the truly credible artists that perform in our venue,” explains Joey. “With the National Underground brand, credibility is paramount. We want to provide an outlet for real artists to get exposure.”
The recipient of three BMI Pop Awards, Gavin DeGraw recently released FREE, the follow-up to his eponymous 2008 album, which debuted atop the Billboard Digital Sales chart and at #7 on the Billboard 200. The J Records recording artist has achieved platinum sales, while his “I Don’t Wanna Be,” which he wrote entirely alone, has earned more than 2 million performances.
