Music Business Council Established in Nashville

The music industry has long made up a substantial piece of the Nashville economy. In an effort to encourage dialogue between the city’s leaders, Mayor Karl Dean—in conjunction with the Nashville Chamber of Commerce—recently announced the establishment of the Music Business Council. Comprising artists and executives including BMI’s Jody Williams, the council will develop economic initiatives designed to capitalize on Nashville’s extensive musical history, present, and future.

In addition to Williams, council members include Next Big Nashville’s Jason Moon Wilkins, NARAS’s Nancy Shapiro, Jack White, the Americana Music Association’s Jed Hilly, the CMA’s Tammy Genovese, Brooks & Dunn’s Kix Brooks, and many others.

“Music is the worldwide identity of our city. It provides a brand that exemplifies the creative, entrepreneurial spirit Nashville is known for,” said Ralph Schulz, president and CEO of the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce. “Because the music industry is a critical element in the city’s economic development efforts, the Music Business Council has been formed to ensure we are doing everything we can to support and continue to grow multiple facets of this industry.”
