2007 John Lennon Scholarship: Zachary Ryan Hillyard
21 year old Zachary Ryan Hillyard was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. At age six my parents gave him the choice of either violin or piano lessons. After taking a lesson of each, he’s happy he chose the piano. Beginning with classical lessons, he soon discovered his first blues scale and was immediately hooked on Jazz. His first song was written in 1st grade and he has been obsessed with composing ever since. While he still loves jazz, most of his current songs are in the genre of R&B/Rock/Pop. In 2006 he entered Berklee College of Music, receiving two scholarships, the “Worlds Tour Scholarship” and the “BEST Scholarship.” He sings and plays keyboard featuring much of his original material in his Boston-based Zach Hillyard Band.
