Southern Gospel Music Guild Kicks Off Harmony Honors

BMI artists and writers claimed nearly all the awards given out at the 1st Annual Harmony Honors, created by the Southern Gospel Music Guild to honor to best in the genre. Gospel patriarch Gerald Crabb was named Best Songwriter; his children, the Grammy-nominated Crabb Family, were named Artist of the Year. Jason Crabb also earned the Male Vocalist nod, while Karen Peck Gooch was named Female Vocalist.

Best Producer honors went to Wayne Haun, who produced Album of the Year This Is the Day and Song of the Year "I Wish I Could Have Been There" for the Perrys.

Held in Hendersonville, Tennessee, at the Trinity Broadcasting Network Studios, the event included performances by Brian Free & Assurance with the Celebration of Life Choir, the Whisnants, Mike Bowling, Karen Peck & New River, the Perrys, and the Crabb Family. Presenters included SGMG President Judy Nelon, Paul Heil, Tim & Mary Alice Lovelace, Chris Freeman, and BMI's Joyce Rice.
