BMI Receives Key Restaurant Association Award

BMI's efforts in creating harmony among songwriters and restaurateurs have been recognized with a major restaurant association award.

BMI was named "Restaurant Supplier of the Year" at a dinner hosted by the Alabama Restaurant Association held at The Hotel at Auburn University on November 8. National Restaurant Association Vice-Chairman Craig Miller, President of Ruth's Chris Steak House Corporation, was on hand to congratulate the winner.

The award acknowledged BMI as "the first music licensing organization that was willing to sit down with the industry and listen to the concerns of food service operators with regard to the music licensing issue." The presentation continued, "They were the first organization to reach out to address such issues, actually changing the way they conduct business, and offering the Association a program to reduce operators costs for obtaining licenses to offer copyrighted material to customers. They have helped the Association educate members on the music licensing issue, and have been a strong supporter in the Association for several years."

Del Bryant, BMI President and CEO, said, "This award is the result of our employees and business customers working closely for mutual benefit. Just as food and music complement each other, our individual businesses are more successful when we work in partnership."

BMI began its Association Benefit Program in 1999, designing a new music license in consultation with food and beverage associations to reflect the way those businesses use music.
