BMI Dominates ACM Awards!

Posted in News on May 3, 2000
It was a big night for BMI songwriters and artists who were among the top winners at the 35th Annual Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards held last night (5/3/00) at the Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles.

Multiple winners included the Dixie Chicks who were named Top Vocal Duo/Group of the Year and whose Grammy Award winning Fly was named Album of the Year. The Dixie Chicks, who according to ACM Awards host Dolly Parton "are clucking right along," also won Album of the Year last year. Pop music's latest country darling, Faith Hill, was named Top Female Vocalist for the second year in a row and her crossover hit "Breathe" was named Top Country Video. Also receiving multiple honors was Lonestar's "Amazed," written by Marv Green, Aimee Mayo and Chris Lindsey, taking home awards for Song and Single Record of the Year.

Country music icon Tammy Wynette was the first posthumous recipient of the "Cliffie" Pioneer Award, given for "outstanding and unprecedented achievements in the field of country music." The award, instituted in 1968, was dubbed the "Cliffie" last year in honor of late BMI songwriter Cliffie Stone, a Country Music Hall of Fame member and 1972 recipient of the honor.
