Meet the Classical Team
Ralph N. Jackson

Ralph N. Jackson
AVP, Classical Music Relations
Ralph N. Jackson was trained as an oboist and composer and for more than 30 years has worked with classical composers and publishers at BMI. He currently heads the classical music area and oversees both the relations and administrative areas. From 1977 through 1979, Jackson performed as a professional oboist with the Center for New Music at the University of Iowa, and then worked briefly for G. Schirmer/Associated Music Publishers before joining the BMI classical staff in 1980. Early in his composing career, he was the recipient of many national and international awards and prizes, including the BMI Student Composer Award (1977 and 1978), the Morton Gould Young Composer Award from ASCAP (1979) and dozens of others. While no longer an active composer, he feels that the experience of creating music has been invaluable in his work to support other composers and the field of classical music in general. In 2007, he was cited for his “significant contribution to contemporary American Music,” by the American Music Center and presented with their prestigious Letter of Distinction. In addition to his work at BMI, Jackson has served for over a decade as the elected President of the BMI Foundation, Inc., a separate not-for-profit that supports the creation, performance and study of music,” and as a board member of MATA (Music at the Anthology) and the Charles Ives Society.
