SongHall Event: “The Songwriter In The Recording Studio”: New York

Songwriters Hall of Fame presents . . . "The Songwriter In The Recording Studio" 1-day intensive workshop, 10AM-4PM.

This one-day intensive workshop held in a recording studio will focus on many aspects of the recording process as it directly relates to the songwriter. The goal of this workshop is to provide a better understanding of this process and will ultimately save studio hours and demo budget dollars while achieving the best results. Basic recording techniques-following a sound from a microphone to recorder to mixer to mastering-will be explained and demonstrated. The use of compression, limiters, EQ and effects like reverb and echo will be discussed. Each attendee will have a chance to sit behind the studio console and "mix" a song. We will record a simple demo, as well as evaluate demos brought into the workshop. This includes listening to a current hit and decoding the sound. The technology of recording as it exists today allows for everyone to put together an affordable studio in their own home. Equipment lists via the FORUM will be provided along with discussions of home recording studios utilizing Pro Tools LE, Apple LOGIC and a computer.
