Los Angeles

Acoustic Lounge
An acoustic evening featuring 4 singer/songwriters “in-the-round” in an intimate and personal environment. Often attended by members of the Southern California songwriter community as well as industry executives the Circle of Songs is a great place to see up and coming talent and do some serious networking. This showcase is held the first Monday of every month at Genghis Cohen from 7pm to 8pm and admission is always free. Genghis Cohen is located at 740 N. Fairfax Ave. LA, CA 90046.
Pick Of The Month
BMI’s Pick of the Month showcase series features one up and coming band every month at one of a variety of L.A.’s best venues. This showcase is open to all genres and performances are generally 35 minute sets at places such as The Troubadour, The Viper Room and The Knitting Factory. These showcases are attended by many industry executives in search of new talent. Cover and location vary.

Nashville

Songwriters’ Workshop With Jason Blume
Held each month from 12:30 to 4:30pm in the BMI Nashville office, the Songwriters Workshop with Jason Blume is open to all songwriters who are serious about and committed to successful commercial songwriting. This month’s topic: writing lyrics that communicate what’s in your heart. Registration will now be conducted the same day of each workshop, with no prior registration necessary. 50 participants will be admitted each session, with registration beginning promptly at 12 p.m. in BMI’s main lobby on the day of the workshop. From noon until 12:30 p.m., numbers will be handed out on a first-come, first-served basis, until all 50 seats are filled. Email nashvilleworkshops@bmi.com with any questions regarding the workshop.
8 Off 8th
BMI proudly presents “8 off 8th,” the free weekly showcase held 9 p.m. every Monday at Nashville music venue Mercy Lounge (1 Cannery Row off 8th Avenue South). Hosted by a rotating lineup of music community impresarios, each night features eight local (and sometimes nationally touring) artists and serves as ground zero for Nashville’s bourgeoning indie rock scene. Whether it’s launching fledging acts fresh out of the garage or showcasing the latest buzz bands, 8 off 8th’s rapid-fire three-song sets satisfy audiences chasing the next big thing.

is held periodically throughout the year at Arlene Grocery, 95 Stanton St,
NYC.
BMI Contemporary Professional Songwriting Workshop
This six-week workshop is designed to help you hone your skills as a
songwriter. The eighteen person class focuses on lyric writing, music theory, and arranging/ production techniques in contemporary songwriting. Application only, held annually during the summer.
