BMI Completes First Round of Circle of Songs

The first season of this wildly popular showcase came to an end with a high- spirited celebration of talent and a proud toast to all that have contributed to its success. Opening the show was John Jakubek, best known for his stint with Zoo People, whose inspiring lyrics created a visual of his many journeys and experiences. Next up was Janet Robin (www.janetrobin.com), whose presence, enormous talent and beyond-superb guitar playing absolutely dazzled the audience. A real treat, this lady certainly will be taking the industry by storm and should not be missed. What would Circle of Songs be without an element of humor? Well, that came in the form of Clive Kennedy (www.clivekennedy.com). British born (complete with accent and a David Niven-ish appearance), Clive’s blend of “country/south of the border -meets Roy Orbison” style had everybody in stitches especially during the song "Por Favor." Rounding out the evening was the duo Fanny Grace (www.fannygrace.com) with Carmen Mejia and Paul Reeves proving why Shandwick International has named them Best Emerging Talent of 2001. Carmen demonstrated her beautiful vocal range in numbers ranging from sassy rockers to a Stevie Nicks-like ballad with Paul’s celtic/gypsy-inspired guitar style providing a stunning accompaniment.

Featuring:

Janet Robin
Described by Music Connection as "an unbelievably talented guitarist and songwriter at the top of her game", Janet has toured with Lindsey Buckingham and has been the supporting act for Heart, the Smithereens, Loudon Wainwright III among others. Her solo acoustic performances leave audiences spellbound. Not to be missed.

John Jakubek
Originally from Ohio, John made his way west to pursue music. He joined local faves Zoo People on Atlantic Records and co-wrote many of their songs. While on hiatus, he worked on his solo material and toured Europe with MCA recording artist Five Easy Pieces. A gifted songwriter with a flair for vividly recreating a moment with a well-chosen word or turn of phrase.

Clive Kennedy
One of the few British country music singer-songwriters, Clive has won numerous accolades with his clever lyrics and charismatic, catchy songs. From Marty Robbins, Hank Williams and Merle Haggard wailing from a battery operated record player in the primitive rural life of South Africa to Elvis, the Beatles and Stones in the discos of London, his music, life and experiences have been vast and unique and lend a creative edge to his songwriting.

Fanny Grace
Consisting of Paul Reeves and Carmen Mejia, Fanny Grace has been chosen by Shandwick International/Rogers & Cowan as their Emerging Artist for the Year 2001. Their unique blend of Gypsy, Celtic folk- rock landed them on stages across the country opening for such acts as The Allman Brothers, .38 Special, Eddie Money and a performance at The Lilith Fair. Definitely a duo with a bright future.
