BMI Publicity 101 Workshop: New York

This workshop will be a nuts-and-bolts presentation on how artists and songwriters can create and manage their own effective publicity. Led by Tracy Mann of MG Limited (Ani DiFranco, Joe Jackson, the Indigo Girls and Bebel Gilberto), the workshop will review and critique press kit materials, examine participants' goals and objectives in getting publicity, explain the basics of how the media works (deadlines, who's who at print, radio, TV and online outlets), how to best present your material and information, how to do your homework on each media contact you make and how to keep those contacts, how to compile a database of media contacts who are right for your music and when to hire a publicist. Participants should bring any press materials they are currently using and any books or publications they have found helpful in doing their own publicity. Held at the BMI New York office (320 West 57th Street) in the 3rd floor Media Room from 6-8pm. For more information or to RSVP, please contact Brooke Primont.
